![]() The 'Unifier' plasma rifle, for example, completely disintegrates a human target, leaving only some residue. Part of the fun in No Remorse is watching your enemies die in a variety of ways. The arsenal of weapons you'll have at your disposal is impressive, ranging from the mundane (semi-automatic pistols), to the devastating (UV-9 ultraviolet rifle). This, along with the inclusion of many interactive objects in each level, adds a fun element of realism to the standard gameplay of finding the blue key to unlock the blue door. In addition, stealth and planning are aided by the presence of alarms, which will call enemy troops to your location and disable some crucial terminals if you activate them. Although you will spend most of your time destroying anything that moves, wanton destruction is not encouraged, as there are useful items such as lockers containing power-ups and ammunition, as well as computer terminals that provide passwords and clues you will need. Mission objectives range from destroying a Consortium refinery, to rescuing prisoners, to kidnapping a Consortium official. The game consists of 16 missions that must be completed in order. Despite this clichéd premise, No Remorse improves over time as the plot thickens and the game's world unfolds in great detail, complete with competent full-motion video acting (which are obviously too large to be included on this CD-rip. The premise is not original, but it is effective in the game's action context: you are a former Silencer, an elite soldier working for the World Economic Consortium, who one day decided to join the Resistance, a movement that aims to free the world from the Consortium's oppression. Undoubtedly one of the best action games ever made, Crusader: No Remorse is a perfect use of the isometric 3D engine used in the lousy Ultima VIII: Pagan.

![]() In the past two decades a variety of papers, books and book chapters, theses and patents were published using this transformation, in the fields of mathematics, physics, biology, technology and education. Its origin is in the description of botanical shapes, but it is a fundamental equation that finds applications in many directions. The former was used in the article, as generalization of Lamé curves, also known as supercircles and superellipses. ![]() In the literature one finds names like Superformula, Gielis Superformula or Gielis curves, surfaces and (sub-) manifolds and Gielis transformations. The paper A generic geometric transformation that unifies a wide range of natural and abstract shapes introduced the Superformula, a generalization of circles and the Pythagorean Theorem, based on work of the French mathematician Gabriel Lamé (1795-1860). We also found that the proposed VR widgets provide a quick overview of the main supershapes, and users can easily reach the desired solution without having to perform fine-grain handle manipulations. We conducted a user study (N = 18) and found that VR shape widgets are effective, more efficient, and natural than conventional VR 1-D sliders while also usable for users without prior knowledge on supershapes. ![]() Our designs take leverage on thumbnails, mini-maps, haptic feedback and spatial interaction, while supporting 1-D, 2-D and 3-D supershape parameter spaces. In this work, we propose VR shape widgets that allow users to probe and select supershapes from a multitude of solutions. VR appears as a promising setting for Parametric Design with supershapes since it empowers users with more natural visual inspection and shape browsing techniques, with multiple solutions being displayed at once and the possibility to design more interest-* ing forms of slider interaction. Some of the formula's parameters are non-linear in nature, making them particularly difficult to grasp with conventional 1-D sliders alone. However, users are left to probe such a rich yet dense collection of supershapes using a set of independent 1-D sliders. Joshua lives in Las Vegas with a cat, a large collection of books and several odd-looking synthesizers.Supershapes are used in Parametric Design to model, literally, thousands of natural and man-made shapes with a single 6 parameter formula. The top 4 are: punk, stone, metal and pop. One of Scheinman’s sources claims this is already an issue in graduate studies.Below is a massive list of rock words - that is, words related to rock. Now compound that with 19th century cursive penmanship and you appreciate the problem. An hour in the reading room of the state’s historical society brought on a headache like I have never had (without benefit of alcohol). Because pen and ink a century ago bled through the paper, anyone reading her letters - or trying to - would be reading four lines simultaneously: backwards, forwards, and crosswise. To save paper, Julia’s letters were written on both sides and in both directions, that is, she wrote across the paper and then rotated it 90°, then turned the paper over and repeated. And in a format that I had associated with the 18th century. ![]() I knew the Jackson house was a Buck design and I suspected their connection with him had come via the Ladies Home Journal, but was that the onlylink? Fortunate for me, Julia Jackson was her mother’s daughter she wrote her mother in Madison at least once, sometimes twice a day. The Jacksons had come from Madison, Wisconsin, where the family were well established and influential. I’m not sure what Jackson’s “day job” may have been my interest arose from the house they built: one of the state’s finer examples of the Arts & Crafts style, designed by Chicago architect Lawrence Buck and built about 1909. Let me give you an example.īetween 1908 and about 1910, the mayor of Williston, North Dakota was Joseph Jackson, who, with his wife Julia, had come during the Second Dakota Boom. Children who write by hand are better able to generate ideas and retain information.Ī particular problem for graduate students in history arises from this inability to read cursive-of any period or place.Cursive note-taking yields a more fluid and cohesive thought process whereas “transcrib lectures verbatim rather than processing information and reframing it in own words is detrimental to learning.”.Brain development has close coördination with manual dexterity. If you don’t go to Scheinman’s article itself, consider this hasty distillation. Taking notes during a lecture, for example, imprints our recollection of what has been said far more durably than by listening alone. It turns out using a pencil is like learning how to use any other tool: “Using our hands requires the development of particular areas of the brain” and the those areas learn through the mechanism of manipulation, especially repetitive - that is, information enters our brain by means other than seeing and hearing it travels up your arm. In “ Hand-wringing over Handwriting” Scheinman does far more than bemoan the disappearance of cursive writing from our schools - at least the public variety parochial and other private schools may be another matter - for there is a documentable connection between writing and cognitive skills. “The benefits of writing by hand, and doing so from a young age, are fundamental: improved and sustained development in social skills, hand-eye coordination, long-term memory.” -Ted Scheinman So it was with great interest that I ran across an article about the sad state of written communication today and why it may be more important than you imagine. I write in that sense, but my students - most of them surely there must be exceptions - operate on the presumption that “cursive” means swearing. No wonder I seem unable to write a book. Despite the number of book-length topics in my research agenda, it’s hard to visualize one of them treated in a hundred chapters of six hundred sixty-six words apiece.Īnother characteristic concerns writing itself, by which I mean the physical act of putting words on paper. And if that is, indeed, the limit of my attention span or of the complexity of thought I might entertain in the moment, the revelation has come none too soon. Ten years of blogging have revealed one unanticipated thing about my writing: the predictable length of a piece here is likely 600 to 700 words. ![]() Good luck with pickups :)Ĭomment by clicTo answer a few questions :ġ/ The coordinates indicated by Kerrianne are all exact, after hours of farming I've covered all the spots many times and have found at least one blood of heroes in each. Vibraphonist Matt Moran either sweetens the pot or swerves his band-mates into complex improvisational movements, often leading to decomposition efforts and pumping beats. And on other tracks, the band merges torrid free-form jaunts with delightful harmonic content. "Make Anchor Babies" is typical of the ensemble's divergent output. With his fluid and blustery lines running point, the program is loaded with striking contrasts a few false endings and bone-rattling rock choruses, magnified by guitarist Mary Halvorson's crunch chords and off-kilter voicings. He has this uncanny propensity to merge catchy melodies with avant expressionism, shifting tides, and steering the band into fierce improvisational segments. However, the album is anything but cryptic as the leader bridges the jazz-rock idiom with New York City downtown scene-like ingenuity amid unanticipated aberrations, solid rock cadences, booming pulses and multileveled montages that often deliver a KO punch. There's a bit of a learning curve to understanding even the basics for simple effects and transitions, but it's no worse-and no better-than most other video-editing software when it comes to ease of use. It uses a traditional video-editing interface, with both timeline and scene editing views. Via the Organizer you can now directly upload unedited videos to YouTube as well. And if you're planning on burning AVCHD discs, keep in mind that the software doesn't yet support version 2.0 of the spec, which allows for 1080/30p. And I'm still unhappy with the way Adobe handles AVCHD import it tries and fails to process all the ancillary files that are part of the directory structure, and doesn't give you the option to copy the entire file structure wholesale so that it can be played back or just burned as if it's a disc. Running the Auto Analyzer to get the video tagged can take a while, though. It allows for hierarchical tagging, as well as Smart Tags, which can automatically classify your media as high, medium, or low quality, as well as tag what it thinks is in focus, low contrast, blurred, and so on. But this does represent Adobe's first 64-bit port of the package-Windows only, unfortunately-which is an essential step for future development of the product.Īdobe has beefed up the Organizer a bit to improve its video support, since it's now serving Premiere Elements as well as Photoshop Elements. And this update to Adobe's consumer video-editing software is even less jingly than the image-editing package when it comes to new bells and whistles. While its sibling Photoshop Elements is turning 10, the younger Premiere Elements just gets the digits. ![]() Therapy, support from loved ones, and other healthy activities can help begin the path to healing from the past and restoring balance to the solar plexus chakra.
